Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Work effectively in a disability support work context by meeting job requirements, complying with organisational requirements and working in a disability sector context.

[CHCCCS041] Recognise healthy body systems *

Learn about the structure and function of the human body to identify normal health status and recognise changes that may indicate illness or injury.

[HLTWHS003] Maintain work health and safety

Implement and monitor work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and work practices as part of a small work team.

[CHCLEG003] Manage legal and ethical compliance *

Research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities.

[CHCMHS001] Work with people with mental health issues *

Establish relationships, clarify needs, and then work collaboratively with people who are living with mental health issues.

[CHCCCS001] Address the needs of people with chronic disease *

Determine and address specific issues faced by people who have a chronic disease, in the context of contributing to a holistic approach to support.

Implement behaviour support strategies outlined in an individualised behaviour support plan for a person receiving care or support.

Work Placement – Minimum of 60 hours of work placement

Apply your learning in real-world care environments under supervision, gaining hands-on experience delivering aged care support.

Units marked with an * require completion of a work placement. The work placement involves an average of 12 hours per week in the workplace with some time spent at home completing activities that contribute to assessment.
